A recent study highlighted the link between gum disease and cancer risk. The researchers discovered that participants in the study with a high level of periodontitis had a 24% higher risk of developing some form of cancer.
Those participants with the highest levels of periodontitis had a higher risk – 28% – of cancer. Knowing that dental care impacts more than just our mouths should serve as a reminder for everyone to schedule regular dental check-ups. Equally important are good dental practices at home to get rid of the bacteria that can cause gum disease.
