How much sugar is in your food?

MedicalNewsToday.com had a recent article about the sugar content of our food (and drinks). The recommended amount of sugar per day should technically be zero, but maximums for men are 36 grams or 9 teaspoons and 24 grams or 6 teaspoons for women.

Keeping that in mind, they note that a milk chocolate bar has 44 grams of sugar. Wow! That’s almost double the amount of what’s recommended for women. You may think that having that one candy bar (or half) is okay but think about the other sources of sugar you may have through the course of a day in surprising places.  For example, most pasta sauces have sugar in them!

Sugar of any type is bad for your overall health, not just your dental health, so read labels before you buy any processed foods and keep sweet treats to a minimum!
