It is that time of the year when our patients and their families treat themselves to a fair amount of sugar which means it is our yearly reminder to protect your teeth which still enjoying your sweets!

  • After eating candy, follow it with a piece of sugar free gum to remove some of the debris from your teeth if you are not able to immediately brush and floss.
  • Avoid hard or sticky candies. With hard sweets, you run the risk of breaking a tooth or a filling.
  • If you love chocolate, go for the darker kind since it has less sugar.

As much as we do not want to ‘waste’ anything, if some of the candy are not favorites, the best thing for your teeth is to throw that candy away. You are much better off with some wasted candy versus an expensive dental visit.
